Multi Engine Instrument Rating

The Multi Engine Instrument rating is an essential step in your aviation career as it enables the Pilot in Command to fly multi engine aircraft under Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC).  It provides greater flexibility to depart in conditions where there is low cloud or non VMC. During your training, you will also become familiar with the operation of handling a multi engine aircraft.

The MEIR rating is valuable to private pilots who are aiming to carry a few passengers with the added redundancy of an extra engine. This is an excellent addition for Commercial Pilots who are looking to expand their aviation career and skillset, you do not need any experience in Multi-Engine aircraft to begin this course. Also, check out the single-engine instrument rating here.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the flight test the pilot will attain a Multi Engine Instrument Rating in Australia (IR-MEA). An IR-MEA allows the pilot to operate a multi engine aircraft under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) in marginal weather. This rating is available to pilots who have completed their PPL or CPL and is required for pilots looking to advance their careers to charter or the airlines.
